Harding High School’s gym floor will be renamed for its longtime athletics director, pending school board approval.
Gerald Keenan, 81, worked for St. Paul Public Schools for 57 years before retiring in 2017.
He joined Harding as a teacher and coach in 1975 and became athletics director in 1996. He also coordinated graduation and the overnight party for the senior class.
Principal Doug Revsbeck recommended the name change to “Gerry Keenan Court.”
School district procedures discourage the school board from naming school facilities after living people. The board will be asked to make an exception Tuesday.
