A Burnsville woman and her lawyer will get $47,500 from Iowa State University to resolve claims that the school failed to protect her from retaliation after she reported being raped in 2015.
Taylor Niesen will get $15,000 from the settlement, which puts an end to her federal lawsuit against the school.
Iowa State did not admit to any wrongdoing.
Niesen was a sorority pledge in January 2015 when she reported she’d been raped by a fraternity member. She said the Greek community then taunted and ostracized her, but Iowa State did nothing about it.
She ended up failing numerous classes and dropping out of school.
Niesen’s lawsuit also alleged Iowa State enabled a culture of drinking and sexual violence, but a judge dismissed those claims.
