A flurry of school closures cropped up Sunday night as several school districts, including St. Paul, Minneapolis, Roseville, Osseo and St. Anthony/New Brighton, called parents to cancel school Monday.

“All schools will be closed, and programs, activities and events canceled on Monday, March 5, because of the weather,” the St. Paul district announced Sunday.

Athletics cancellations are announced separately at spps.org/sports.

The school district was harshly criticized for failing to call off classes during a Jan. 22 snowstorm. Hundreds of students didn’t make it home until well into that night as buses got stuck in the heavier than expected snow.

The National Weather Service predicts 6 to 8 inches of snow could fall in Minneapolis and St. Paul as morning rain turns to heavy snow on Monday morning.
