Stillwater Area School District officials say extra precautions will be in place at Stillwater Area High School today after a threat was posted on social media Thursday night.

The threat said: “If you go to Stillwater, do not go to school tomorrow because there’s someone threatening to shoot up the school.”

Police learned of the threat about 7:30 p.m. Thursday and “investigated the matter immediately” and determined there was no threat to the school, Oak Park Heights Police Chief Brian DeRosier said. The high school is in Oak Park Heights.

DeRosier said police worked with school officials Thursday night to determine who was responsible.

“The parents of the subject who had made the post also cooperated … to allow us to quickly alleviate the concern over the threat,” DeRosier said.

School officials said they were confident no real threat existed.

“After a thorough investigation in cooperation with local law enforcement, we are confident there is no existing threat to our students,” school officials wrote in a note sent to families Friday morning. “We are taking extra measures to ensure a safe environment will be provided for our students and staff today, but it is always the choice of families as to whether to send children to school.”

Extra police were at the school on Friday morning as a “calming” measure, DeRosier said.

He said no arrests have been made or charges filed.

“This investigation is still ongoing to determine the full scope,” DeRosier said.
