Citing school violence and other concerns, more than 2,500 people have signed a petition seeking the resignation of St. Paul Public Schools Superintendent Valeria Silva.
Tasha Rose, a district parent, presented the MoveOn.org petition to the school board Tuesday night, citing incidents of violence, missed enrollment goals and intimidation of outspoken teachers.
“We implore the board to actively listen to these words and address these failures with a change in administrative leadership,” she said during the public comment period that precedes the regular monthly board meeting.
Roughly one-third of the signatories listed St. Paul addresses.
In keeping with standard protocol, board members did not respond to Rose’s comments.
Silva has been superintendent since December 2009. She has said she intends to stay on the job until her current contract ends December 2018.
