Opponents of a planned expansion for Linwood elementary school have asked the St. Paul City Council to rule on two zoning variances.
The city zoning board on March 13 approved height and lot coverage variances on a 4-1 vote. Opponents since have appealed that decision to the council, according to city staff.
A date for the council hearing has not been set.
St. Paul Public Schools plans to spend $45 million over the next year renovating two arts-infused schools, the K-3 Linwood and Monroe, which serves grades 4-8 as well as pre-K.
The building projects would move pre-K and the fourth grade to Linwood while expanding classrooms, improving wheelchair access and creating separate lunch and performance spaces at the school.
Neighbors have complained that a larger school will block sunlight and leave too little green space in the area.
