The West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan school district will be on the hunt for a new leader in 2017.
Superintendent Nancy Allen-Mastro announced last week that she plans to retire when the school year ends in June. Allen-Mastro joined the district in 2012 and has more than 30 years of experience as an educator.

“I am grateful to staff, the school board, district parents and our community for their passion and commitment to our students,” Allen-Mastro said in a statement. “I believe we have accomplished a great deal together, and my time in West St. Paul-Mendota Heights-Eagan Schools will remain a career highlight for me in many ways.”
During her time with the district, Allen-Mastro counted among her successes a revised strategic plan, growing enrollment, a new early-learning facility and the passage of three tax levies.
Allen-Mastro came to the West St. Paul district from Bloomington, where she worked as an assistant superintendent. She was hired after the school board conducted a national search.
Board members are expected to begin discussions soon about how to find her replacement. They plan to have a replacement on board by June 2017.
The district enrolls about 5,000 students from preschool to high school and has an annual operating budget of $66 million.
District voters overwhelmingly renewed an existing operating levy Nov. 8 that will provide the district with $5.2 million a year in funding until 2027. Voters also backed levy increases for technology and infrastructure in 2014.
“I leave at a time when the district has tremendous momentum,” Allen-Mastro’s statement said. “I look forward to working with teachers and staff to finish the year strong and I feel confident that district will be in a very positive position for the next superintendent.”
