A Twin Cities plumbing and electrical service is donating $20,000 to teachers for their classrooms, and people can cast their vote for teachers now through next week.
Genz-Ryan will award two teachers with $2,000 in Target gift cards and 16 additional teachers with gift cards of $1,000 each ahead of the new school year. The donation is part of the Classroom Cash program, which has gifted $73,000 in total to Minnesota teachers since it started in 2019.
The goal is to help educators avoid spending thousands of dollars out of pocket on school supplies. A recent national survey shows that teachers spent an average of $750 of their personal funds for classroom needs in 2021, and educators are expected to spend more this school year.
Minnesota teachers have already been nominated, and the public can vote on Genz-Ryan’s Facebook page at Facebook.com/genzryan through Tuesday. Winners will be announced on Wednesday.
