A video that includes a middle-school student using racist language is causing alarm in the North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District.

The district sent a message to parents Wednesday about the video, which appeared on the social media site Instagram.

“This video is shocking and will not be tolerated,” read the district statement that was sent to parents and staff of Skyview Middle School, where the student attends.

“All students have an inherent right to an equitable, accessible, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment, and it is the goal of District 622 to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all of our students and staff,” read the statement. “District 622 and our school community will respond in an appropriate manner according to the district student conduct policies.”

According to media reports, the 17-second video includes racist terms and speaks favorably about the death of George Floyd.

In a prepared statement, school officials said they were investigating the video, and have contacted law enforcement agencies.
