The Stillwater Area Public Schools board plans to hire a search firm to help find a permanent superintendent of schools.
According to the school board packet, the board is expected to vote on a plan to post a request for proposals for a search firm on the district’s website on Friday. Proposals would be due Dec. 17, and the selection of the firm is to be voted on at the Jan. 6, 2022, board meeting.
The new superintendent would start work on July 1, 2022.
Interim Superintendent Malina Lansfeldt said Tuesday that she plans to apply for the permanent position.

“My heart is with the district, and I am very proud of what we have accomplished during a very complex and challenging time in education,” she said. “There is still a lot of work to be done, and I would like to opportunity to continue to move forward supporting our students, staff and families. It will ultimately be up to the community and school board to make the best decision for the district.”
Lansfeldt, former principal of Afton-Lakeland Elementary School, took over as interim superintendent after former superintendent Denise Pontrelli was ousted from the position in June 2020. Lansfeldt was originally hired to fill a one-year term, but her term was extended.
The Stillwater school district has about 1,100 employees and 8,200 students in 10 schools.
