Literary calendar: Kao Kalia Yang hosts ‘Beyond Words at Home’ Literacy MN fundraiser

LITERACY MINNESOTA: Presents award-winning Minnesota author Kao Kalia Yang hosting the organization’s fundraising event, Beyond Words at Home, in conversation with members of the organization’s Open Door Book Club, made up of ESL and GED learners and volunteers from their learning centers. They will discuss Yang’s essay “Dark Trees in the Landscape of Love,” published in the anthology “A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota.” 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, via Zoom.

Tickets are pay-what-you-can with suggested donation of $50, available at literacymn.org/beyond-words-at-home. Proceeds benefit Literacy Minnesota’s efforts to build a more equitable society by making quality literacy education available to all.

FOSTER/ROMO: Sesshu Foster and Arturo Ernesto Romo discuss their new novel “Eladatl: A History of the East Los Angeles Dirigible Air Transport Lines,” about the little-known period of American air travel when groups like the East LA Balloon Club were working to revolutionize travel, aiming to literally lift oppressed people out of racism and poverty, in conversation with award-winning novelist Karen Tei Yamashita.
