Two Pokemon Go players have reported their cellphones stolen this week at the University of Minnesota.
In a not-too-serious public safety message Thursday, the U warned players of the dangers of distracted gaming.
“Do not run into trees, meters and things that are attached to the sidewalk; they hurt,” the email read.
The U also suggested players be aware of their surroundings, keep off private property, obey traffic laws and avoid hunting for Pokemon while driving or bicycling.
In other parts of the country, Pokemon hunters have been hit by a car and stepped off a cliff while trying to catch ’em all.
“Most players are having a great time — people are getting out and exploring campus, meeting new friends and enjoying the summer weather,” the U said.
“But as you’ve probably heard, the game apparently causes some people to completely lose their good judgment and common sense.”
Details on the two reported thefts were not immediately available, but the U said the victims were “engrossed in the game and unaware they were being targeted.”
The university last Friday fed the augmented-reality craze by giving away prizes at four locations where they had dropped in-game lures to attract more Pokemon.
