The Mounds View National Honors Society will be hosting a drive next week to collect school supplies for families struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This year, we noticed that it must’ve been very difficult for people experiencing homelessness or poverty to purchase school supplies for their children and have COVID-19 supplies on-hand for prevention purposes,” said Sanjana Pattanaik, spokesperson for the group.
The event is called “Helping the Homeless.” New or gently-used notebooks, folders, pencils and pens as well as hand sanitizers, sanitary wipes and masks may be dropped off during school hours Oct. 26-30 at Mounds View High School, either in the main commons or the library. Curbside drop-off will be available before school (7:45 to 8:15 a.m.) and after school (3:15 to 3:45 p.m.) at the circle drive near the entrance of the school at 1900 Lake Valentine Road in Arden Hills.
All donations will be taken to Simpson Housing Services, a nonprofit in Minneapolis, for distribution.
