TPT adding another local production for kids

Twin Cities PBS (TPT) has received $4.6 million from the U.S. Department of Education to produce a kids’ show, “Mashopolis.” “Mashopolis” will include 40 half-hour-long television episodes in English and Spanish, as well as interactive games and apps.

The goal premiere date for “Mashopolis” on U.S. public television stations is 2023. “Mashopolis” will be an immersive game city for kids, specifically providing for underserved and low-income children, according to a TPT news release. The project focuses on helping 8- to 5-year-olds develop executive function (EF) skills, such as self-control.

The cast of “Mashopolis” will include a diverse group of three. The trio enters into the 2D animated world and visits simulations of their favorite cities on their adventures. Every episode will include two animated stories that build EF skills and show children possible career paths.

Episodes will end with the characters jumping out of the digital world to encourage kids to get out and play.
