The Conway Community Center hosted a ceremonial groundbreaking Tuesday to mark the $11 million improvements being made to its outdoor soccer fields on St. Paul’s East Side.
The Sanneh Foundation, which is leading the fundraising effort, recently announced the Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation has contributed $2 million to the project, which will include two FIFA-certified fields and a seasonal dome for winter programming. The fundraising effort includes $4.5 million in state bonds.
Sanneh holds a long-term lease on the city-owned community center.
“This incredible support comes at a time when leading the way to transformative change requires major investments,” Tony Sanneh, the foundation’s founder and CEO, said in a news release. “This $2 million grant reflects the urgency of this moment and the need to address community health as a combination of factors that inlaces community centers, education, food and economic stability.”
