The head of both Inver Hills Community College and Dakota County Technical College will drop the interim label and become the schools’ permanent president.
Trustees for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities board agreed Wednesday to pursue a three-year contract with Michael Berndt, who has been interim president since 2018.

He was one of three finalists for the job.
“He understands the importance and benefits of fostering and deepening connections between DCTC and Inver Hills, as well as building relationships with their local communities,” Minnesota State Chancellor Devinder Malhotra said in a prepared statement.
“I know he will lead with the same inexhaustible capacity for hard work, positivity and passion that has served him in all his roles.”
Berndt previously was an English instructor and administrator at Normandale Community College and then vice president of academic affairs at Century College.
