St. Paul Public Schools and the St. Paul Federation of Educators announced early Friday that they have reached a tentative agreement , ending a strike that began Tuesday.

“We are glad to reach an agreement with our educators,” said Superintendent Joe Gothard in a statement. “Through hours of compromise and a laser focus on placing students above all else, we have a new two-year agreement that targets resources to areas of greatest need.”

Classes will resume for all students on Monday. Kid Space and meal site locations will be open today.

Details of the compromise proposal are not being released by school officials, pending ratification by members of the union.

The tentative agreement on a new contract came at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Friday, after more than 19 hours of mediation beginning at 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Negotiations with the union, which represents 3,600 Educators, Educational Assistants and School and Community Service Professionals, began last May. Mediation has been going on since mid-December.
